Description: The Mendocino County Street Centerline file consists of polylines representing the approximate centerline for the roads included in the file. Centerline data for Federal and State Highways as well as City and County maintainted roads were obtained by the use of Global Positioning System, (GPS) equipment and software. All street centerlins included in the file with the exception of private roads were mapped using a Trimble ProXR reciever, utilizing an external dome antenna mounted to the roof of a motor vehical. As the roads were driven, GPS data was collected at one second intervals. An offset option was utilized to obtain the approximate road centerline. Trimble Pathfinder software was used to post process the data using additional GPS base station data. Data for private road centerlines were developed from the U.S. Geological Survey Digital Line Graph road centerline file, this data was then modified using available aerial imagery as a control. Aerial imagery included U.S.D.A. NAIP imagery as well as selected local high resolution black and white aerial imagery. All road name data was obtained from the agencies that maintain or have ownership responsiblities for the road in question. Road names for private roads were obtained from the agency that has jurisdiction to name the road as per resoution or ordinance.
